What are life intentions?

For the last few years I have been setting life intentions. The difference between life intentions and goals for me is that life intentions are about who and how you want to live your life whereas goals are about achieving a specific ‘what’ that you want. Life intentions are more connected with being and feeling feminine energy, whereas goals are more connected with active and controlling masculine energy. It is far more common to hear goal-setting talked about and for people to set goals, and I think that goals certainly have their value, but setting intentions helps bring purpose and meaning to the goals that we set.

3 Levels of Life Intentions

I like to have three levels of life intentions:

  1. Ultimate Intentions – these are like broad over-arching principles for my life
  2. Yearly Intentions – these are more specific intentions that I want to embody for a period of time – normally year to year
  3. Daily Intentions – these are specific focus intentions that I can choose to set on particular days. I have a list of these and then I can choose one or two that feel particularly relevant for me to tune into on a given day

My life intentions haven’t changed much since I began setting them in 2017. This is because they are general statements which resonate with my values and only really shift if I have a significant change in my values or level of personal growth.

Key Questions to Help You Clarify Your Life Intentions

Below are my life intentions as we enter 2021. You can use these as a basis or inspiration to write your own life intentions. Key questions to ask yourself as you formulate your life intentions are:

Who do I want to be?
How do I want to be?
What emotions/characteristics/values do I want to embody as I move through life?
What is most important to me?
How do I want to feel about myself and about life?

My Ultimate Life Intentions

To feel loved, assured, connected, and content
To live feeling peace, joy and fun, expressing my creativity and spending my time doing things I love
To feel that I am living comfortably with ease, able to easily afford or obtain all that I need and desire
To create a fulfilling romantic partnership that feels deeply connected, uplifting, honest, secure, playful, sexy and loving.
To feel that I am living in a wonderful place that fulfills all my needs and desires in a beautiful location, at a price I can easily afford

My Yearly Life Intentions

To feel ongoing love and acceptance of myself – to feel embraced by myself
To feel ongoing appreciation of myself
To feel assured, and to see myself as worthy to function on any level, equal to any person
To feel confident to ask for what I truly want and to do what I truly want
To feel free of the past and to be focused on the the present and the new story I want to tell for my life
To feel an ongoing playful delight in life
To love what I am doing and to feel empowered to do what I love
To live the understanding that feeling good/maintaining a high energy vibration is the key to activating the flow of abundance. It is the energy that brings the vibrational reality into physical reality. It is my key ‘work’.

Daily Life Intentions

What would it take to:
– appreciate myself today?
– love myself today
– see myself as worthy today?
– step up today?
– stand strong in my power today
– fully express my authentic self today?
– play today?
– do what I love today?
– open to receive today?
– freely let go of fear and resistance today?
– honour my heart desires today?
– honour my body and physical needs today?
– protect and maintain my energy today?
– tune into Source energy more today?

As you write your life intentions tune into your heart rather than your head. Having life intentions is a great way to create a balance of purpose and activity, and being and doing.

Wishing you abundant blessings for the year ahead.
